Welcome to Dexter United Methodist Church!

December 14 – Thursday

Light the 12th candle

Scripture reading:

“The poor and the oppressor have this in common: the Lord gives light to the eyes of both.”  Proverbs 29:13 NRSV

When a light is turned on or candle lit, it does not discriminate who or what it shines on.  This verse reminds us this Advent that the Light Jesus came to bring is for everyone – whether we have been the oppressor or the oppressed.  Advent is a time for new beginnings, a time for the Light of Christ to help us to see Him.

Activity for Families and kids – material needed: any light that can be turned on and off.

Turn the light on and off.  Ask if the light only shines on good things?  Or that is shines on both furniture and people.  This is a reminder that Jesus’ light shines on all people – those who are doing good and not so good.  Naughty of nice, the light of Jesus is for all people.
