Welcome to Dexter United Methodist Church!

December 16 – Saturday

Light the 14th candle

Scripture reading:

“By the tender mercy of our God, the dawn from on high will break upon us, to give light to those who sit in darkness and in the shadow of death, to guide our feet into the way of peace.”  Luke 1:78 & 79 NRSV

Have you ever found yourself in a dark place – where everything is going wrong and the only one to blame is yourself?  It happens!  In this broken world we too easily make choices that bring darkness upon ourselves and even our families.  These verses bring good news!  Because of God’s tender mercy (favor given to us not because we deserve it – but even though we don’t) we do not have to remain in the dark places we have created by our own deeds, thoughts and actions.  I love this part- the light will guide our feet into the way of peace.  In the middle of our darkness Jesus guides our way out to a new way, a way of peace.

Take time today to thank God for his gift of Jesus and his tender mercy toward you.

Activity for Families and kids – material needed: paper and coloring tools.

Draw a picture of things you do that you shouldn’t.  Then take colors that remind you of light and color over it.  This reminds us that when we do what we shouldn’t,  Jesus still gives us his light to bring us close to him.
