Welcome to Dexter United Methodist Church!

December 21 – Thursday

Light the 19th candle

Scripture reading:

“For it is the God who said, ‘Let light shine out of darkness,’ who has shone in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.”  2 Corinthians 4:6 NRSV

At Advent we reflect on the fact that God went to great lengths to bring us back to the light of creation so that we could encounter God face to face just as humanity did in the beginning.  This happened at the birth of Christ.  It reminds me of the line in the Christmas song “Mary Did You Know?” – “when you kissed your little baby, you kissed the face of God.”

The amazing thing about this light that Jesus brought to us from God is that now even without seeing Jesus in person or being able to kiss his face, Jesus can shine in our hearts because of the life he lived on earth and the knowledge he brought through his ministry and stories.

May you see the face of Jesus this Advent.

Activity for Families and kids – material needed: coloring materials.

Given what you know about Jesus and his life, draw a picture of what you think Jesus’ face looks like and then share it with one another.
