Webster’s Dictionary describes gifts as: “something voluntarily transferred by one person to another without compensation”. Gift giving seems to be a part of cultures everywhere at different times for different reasons. The tradition of giving gifts at Christmas grows out of the story of Jesus’ birth and the wise men who brought gifts to the baby Jesus. It is easy to get caught up in giving the best gift or hoping for the best gift or getting weary of taking care of giving everyone gifts. But take time this season to appreciate the gift of life Jesus brings to us and look at sharing gifts with those who would least expect it.
With Children: Hang tag #20 with a gift. Take some time to wrap a few gifts together for friends and family. Talk about why we give gifts. Think about one person who would not expect to get a gift from you and give them one.
With Teens: Do some research together about the gifts the Wise men brought baby Jesus and what they might represent. Why do you think they chose those gifts?
