Light the 18th candle
“In the same way, let you light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father in heaven.” Matthew 5:16 NRSV
It is nice to be noticed for the work we do, weather for a job, in our family and home or in volunteering. In this verse it alludes to the fact that getting noticed for what you do is a good thing – but here’s the catch – the glory for the good work you do is not for you. The most important thing about shining is that God gets the glory not you. This is sometimes hard to do. Take a moment to pray and ask God to let his light shine through you for his glory and not yours.
Activity for Families and kids – material needed: exuberant voice.
Practice giving God the glory for the good works you do. Parents and kids take turns complimenting one another for a good work. The recipient of the praise replies: “Praise God” or “Thanks be to God”.
