Light the 22nd candle the fourth purple one in advent
“Master, now you are dismissing your servant in peace, according to your word; for my eyes have seen your salvation, which you have prepared in the presence of all peoples, a light for revelation to the Gentiles and for glory to your people Israel.” Luke 2:29-32 NRSV
These are the words of Simeon, an old man, who spent his whole life looking for the messiah. God promised that Simeon would see Jesus before he died. This scripture is his response to seeing Jesus at his dedication in the temple. When we look for Jesus God’s promise to Simeon is also for us – we will see him before we die. Jesus is the light that reveals God to us. If we look we will find, even if it takes a lifetime of waiting and watching. How are you watching for Jesus today on Christmas Eve?
Activity for Families and kids – material needed: baby Jesus from the nativity set in your home.
Hide the baby Jesus in your home. Play a game of seeking Jesus. On Christmas Eve it is a good thing to look for baby Jesus who was coming to earth and is still coming into our hearts.
