What is Stephen Ministry?
A program that provides distinctively Christian care one-on-one to those who are experiencing all kinds of life needs and circumstances, both in our congregation and our community. Stephen Ministers are well-trained, caring lay ministers who have responded to Christ’s call to “carry each other’s burdens, and in this way fulfill the law of Christ” (Galatians 6:2). The ministry is named after Stephen, one of the first deacons in the early Christian church, commissioned by the apostles to care for the needs of people in the Christian community.
Everyone needs someone to care, listen, and share God’s love from time to time—to get through a difficult period of confusion, stress or loneliness. Stephen Ministers provide support for many kinds of needs, including (but not limited to):
- Stressful family situations
- Feeling lonely and lost in a new location
- Chronic or terminal illness
- Families of the chronically ill
- Loss of a loved one
- Separation or divorce
- Families of prisoners
- Having a newborn
- Job crisis
- Financial setbacks
- Struggling with faith in God
- Facing life changes (e.g.: retirement)
- Miscarriage and infertility
